Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Brita 42556 Grand 80-Ounce Water Filtration Pitcher, WhiteCustomer Review: good filter and idea, but not designed as well as those past... Summary: 3 Stars
I owned the same model, grand, which I purchased about 2-3 year ago perhaps and recently I knocked it off the counter and it cracked on the bottom. I was upset as I loved the filter and assumed they did not make it anymore, to my delight Brita still made it so I bought it. I instantly noticed that the plastic is much thinner and cheaper - I am not even sure how to describe it - it squeaks and groans when it is full and you lift it - just not as sturdy feeling although the older model was a bit difficult to pour when full due to its weight so perhaps this is actually an improvement. The cover does not fit very well - and again it much lighter than the older model I owned. If you are not careful, the lid will fall off and water will come out. I just hold on to the top when I pour it now, but still not a very good design especially when the other one I had worked so well and was heavier. I tried to change the lid for my older model's and there is a very slight change in the shape and they are not compatible. Overall I love how much water it holds, but I am disappointed they went cheap on this. I still would recommend it though as it has a large capacity - I used the other one for as I said 2-3 years and loved it - saves money, saves our environment.
Customer Review: Go with PUR Summary: 3 Stars
I have purchased this Brita water filter about 4 months ago and have experienced all of the negative aspects as the other reviewers. The top fits far too loosely, the flap that covers the water spout sticks, and the filter doesn't fit tight enough so you get little charcoal particles in all of your drinks (isn't that the point of a water filter, taking contaminants out?). The things I do like is the little electronic filter change indicator on the top that makes keeping track of when to change the filter a cinch, the large size, and the taste of the water is decent and filters the water quickly. Overall, it's ok. The pros more or less match the cons, but the cons it does have are annoying. My parents have a cheap PUR water filter and I prefer that one over the Brita just because it is designed better and does it's job better.
Customer Review: Decent Pitcher Summary: 3 Stars
I agree with the complaint from other people about the lid being poorly designed. But this isn't the first Brita pitcher I have bought so I was aware of the issue and was also fine with the filter change indicator merely keeping track of time and not actual water usage. I have bought bad filters with the black spots only once. If that happens again, I will seriously consider not buying Brita picthers again. But the pitcher's body is of sturdy construction so I feel it is an adequate pitcher.
Customer Review: just ok Summary: 3 Stars
i guess whether or not you get a functioning pitcher is how lucky you are. I have one at home and the top fits snug and i was very happy with it. i bought one for work and the lid fit very poorly. i called Brita and they sent a new lid. fits a little better but not tight and will fall off if tipped too far. we like the size of the pitcher so decided to keep it and solved the problem by writing "hold lid while pouring" with a sharpie.
Customer Review: Brita Grand Pitcher Summary: 3 Stars
We owned a Brita for many years, and recently I used a gift card to purchase a newer model. It is amazing how crystal clear the water is. However, the cover does not fit properly, and in order to pour the water out it's necessary to remove the cover first. This is definitely an inconvenience and I would not purchase this model again.
