I have mixed feelings on this pitcher. Briefly, here is what I have to say about it:
Pro:
* Good, clean filtered water with no chlorine smell or taste.
* Good size and shape. It fits very well in my small apartment sized refrigerator.
* It has a handy manual date reminder built into the lid.
Con:
* The people complaining about the loose lid are correct. It will not stay on except when sitting still in the refrigerator. You might as well just remove the lid when filling the pitcher because the lid will fall off if you try to fill it through the hole designed for filling the pitcher. The lid will fall off if you try to pour from the pitcher without securing the lid with the thumb of your pouring hand or with your other hand.
* The spout could be designed better. For the first two months that I owned the pitcher it would pour most of the water into the glass, but some would always run down the pitcher and drip off the bottom. However, during the next four months I have had almost no drippage. I must have unconsciously figured out how to pour without dripping.
Conclusion:
* Do not buy this if you have children that will be using it. The lid will seem to spend more time on the table or floor or sink or whatever than it will spend on top of the pitcher.
* Do not buy this if you are easily frustrated. You will have issues with the lid and with the pour spout.
* Maybe buy this pitcher if neither of the above is an issue and you have a smaller refrigerator or if you really want or need a specific feature on this pitcher.
It is now a couple of weeks later and I have to change this review a little. Since I wrote the review I have purchased another model of the Brita pitcher. There is no comparison. The lid snaps into place. The spout pours driplessly. I lowered my rating of the space saver model from three stars to two stars. I couldn't lower it to one star because of the only two features that I liked, the size and the date reminder. So I recommend against buying this pitcher unless you absolutely have to have those two features.

I have to agree with most of the other reviews. The water is clear & tastes right but the pitcher is a disaster. Once we had a bad filter that left the charcoal residue, but if we soak the filter in cold water for 10 mins then run cold water through it for a few seconds before installing it, the water is excellent. However...the pitcher could not be more flawed. The lid, despite all attempts refuses to stay seated on the pitcher. When pouring, the lid usually falls off or pops loose causing massive leakage & annoyance. The most ridiculous design feature though is at the top of the handle, inside the water reservoir...there's a hole where the handle attaches to the pitcher. SO, if the pitcher is A) over-filled or B) Not over-filled, but slightly jostled (such as the movement induced by returning the recently filled pitcher to the refrigerator) the water will go through the hole, down the handle and leak everywhere. There's a funky plastic piece inside the handle which keeps it from leaking all at once. That way you don't necessarily notice the handle is full of water immediately and your refrigerator is full of spilled water the next time you open it. My husband is not very conscious of this fact so I keep an empty cereal bowl in the refrigerator on the shelf below the water pitcher to catch all of the water that leaks down the handle.Customer Review: Lid = Design Defect

This is my 3rd Brita Pitcher that I've owned. The filter fits in just like it always has. There are some key differences.
BENEFITS
--------
+ Space Saving Design. The pitcher is tapered unlike the rectangular ones in the past. But it seems to hold less water than the standard Brita pitcher.
+ Calendar Dial built into the lid approximately tells you when to change the filter. This is better than the vinyl stickers in the older pitchers.
DESIGN FLAW
- The lip of the lid doesn't sink into the pitcher deep enough. You'll need to use one hand to pour and the other hand to hold the top of the lid down. When you forget to do this, there is a very good chance that the lid will fall off *as you* pour water.
Try another Brita pitcher instead. This one is not worth the trouble.

This pitcher is unbalanced because the designer felt it must fit into a refrigerator door These dimensions makes it unwieldy when full and especially if the top reservoir is full too.
The lid does not fit into the reservoir properly and falls out when the pitcher is tilted to pour water. Since there is a problem with fit, the gap between the top and the handle is emphasized. Somehow water seeps into the hollow handle only to drip out slowly. Once in the refrigerator, if unnoticed, there will be water on any objects standing beneath it.
Brita water pitchers offer many benefits. It is a shame this one's design shortcomings overshadow its good properties. This model should be returned to the drawing boards
